Attention 8th grade students: Apply to attend YouthPower Energy Camp.
Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. is presenting a new program designed for eighth grade students. South Central
Power will sponsor one student to participate in the YouthPower Energy Camp.
The day-and-a-half experience is designed to demonstrate how electricity is produced and the challenges facing a world
with increasing demand for energy. Team leaders will walk students through various exercises to help them understand the
scope of the world’s growing energy demand and the challenge of clean energy development.
When and Where?
The camp’s highlight will be a trip to the Cardinal plant. The coal-fired generating station for all of Ohio’s electric
Cooperatives is located in Brilliant, OH. YouthPower Energy Camp will be held June 26 and 27. Participants will meet at
OREC offices in Columbus and travel by bus to Oglebay Park in West Virginia. En route, the bus will stop in Cambridge to
pick up students from the southern and eastern parts of the state.
After the Cardinal tour, students will return to Oglebay Park for the night.
Additional youth activities are scheduled in the morning. The bus will
leave Oglebay at approximately 10 a.m., with a stop in Cambridge. It will arrive at OREC at about 12:30 p.m.
