South Central Power Company has an immediate opening for a Journeyman Line Worker at our Lancaster, Ohio location. The successful candidate will have satisfactorily completed a recognized apprenticeship program and be able to perform all classes of overhead and underground distribution work on energized and de-energized lines.

South Central Power is an electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Lancaster, Ohio, with additional offices across the state. South Central Power serves approximately 115,000 customers and owns and maintains 11,600 miles of distribution line and 256 miles of 69 kV transmission line. The cooperative operates six 138 kV to 69 kV delivery points as well as 70 substations and delivery points. South Central Power serves residential and a wide range of commercial and industrial customers in very rural areas of south central and eastern Ohio as well as suburban areas south and southeast of Columbus.

Responsibilities include all types of work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities, which includes substations.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a high school degree or equivalent
  • Must be classified as a Journeyman in the electrical field
  • Maintain a Class A CDL
  • Successfully pass a background check, drug/alcohol test and a physical and knowledge based pre-hire assessment

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking an experienced individual to fill the position of Director of Member Experience.

This position provides leadership and direction for all functions related to the Cooperative’s contact center. The position is responsible for the development and implementation of programs and processes that will improve efficiencies, increase member satisfaction and foster goodwill between the cooperative and its members. Experience in establishing, monitoring, and analyzing key performance indicators is required. The successful candidate will have strong leadership experience that fosters a culture of coaching, team building, and development of staff.

The cooperative’s member service function is spread across the corporate headquarters in Lancaster, Ohio and three district offices. The position would report to our Lancaster office with frequent travel to district offices required. This position will report to the Vice President of Member Services. Direct reports include a staff of four with an additional 30 indirect reports fulfilling front-line member service responsibilities on a day-to-day basis.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of practical application of skills is required with at least three of those years in direct supervision.
  • Experience in a utility or related organization is preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must demonstrate the ability to successfully lead change, supervise personnel and deal with a variety of people under different and sometimes difficult circumstances.
  • Must be proficient with computer programs like Word and Excel and should have experience with Interactive Voice Response (IVR) units and call recording/monitoring equipment. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking an experienced individual to fill the position of Director of Finance & Accounting.

This position provides leadership and direction for all functions related to the cooperative’s finance and accounting department. The position is responsible to ensure the proper utilization and internal control of the cooperative’s assets; to insure that all cooperative records are maintained in accordance with sound accounting procedures and principals and meet all requirements set forth in the R.U.S. Uniform System of Accounts; to ensure that accurate, adequate and timely statistical information is produced for use in cooperative management; and to ensure adequate and economically prudent financing of cooperative’s expenditures. The successful candidate will have strong leadership experience that fosters a culture of coaching, team building and development of staff.

The position would report to our Lancaster office. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer. Direct reports include a staff of three with an additional two indirect reports.

Qualifications

  • Candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting. A CPA license is required.
  • At least seven years of progressively responsible accounting positions. At least two of these years should include management and supervisory responsibility. Experience in a utility or related organization is preferred.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of accounting principles, investments, cash management, RUS accounting and basic purchasing procedures. Knowledge of basic auditing principles and practices is desirable.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills. Highly motivated, detail oriented and organized. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to identify areas of risk and inefficiency and determine process improvement opportunities to address such risk and inefficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain collaborative work relationships at all levels within the Company. Responsibilities include assisting in planning right of way clearing and herbicide treatment and overseeing contracted right of way planners and tree contractors in each territory. The position will assist with resolving member complaints and auditing cleared rights of way. This position will be responsible for coordinating vegetation work with engineering and operations as required.

We are looking for an individual with strong leadership and communication skills who will work hard to ensure South Central Power’s commitment to safety, reliability, and organizational excellence is upheld. The successful applicant must be able to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with the capability to effectively respond and problem solve. The position will report to the Vegetation Control Manager. The cooperative’s vegetation function is spread across the corporate headquarters in Lancaster, Ohio and four district offices. Reporting location will be determined based on needs but will cover the central and southern Ohio regions.

Qualifications include:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional academic or technical school training equivalent to one-year coursework in Forestry, Environmental Engineering is preferred. A minimum of five years’ practical utility experience required.
  • The successful candidate for this position should have commercial applicator license (Industrial Vegetation – Category 5) or must obtain these this certification within two years of being hired. Required to obtain Certified Arborist status within three years.
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must maintain a valid drivers’ license and good driving record.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated consistency and proficiency in oral and written communications; ability to negotiate; is member driven; displays initiative; accepts responsibility; holds others accountable; applies knowledge and skill to solve problems and respond promptly and appropriately to members.
