South Central Power Company has an immediate opening for a Journeyman Line Worker at our Lancaster, Ohio location. The successful candidate will have satisfactorily completed a recognized apprenticeship program and be able to perform all classes of overhead and underground distribution work on energized and de-energized lines.

South Central Power is an electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Lancaster, Ohio, with additional offices across the state. South Central Power serves approximately 115,000 customers and owns and maintains 11,600 miles of distribution line and 256 miles of 69 kV transmission line. The cooperative operates six 138 kV to 69 kV delivery points as well as 70 substations and delivery points. South Central Power serves residential and a wide range of commercial and industrial customers in very rural areas of south central and eastern Ohio as well as suburban areas south and southeast of Columbus.

Responsibilities include all types of work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities, which includes substations.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a high school degree or equivalent
  • Must be classified as a Journeyman in the electrical field
  • Maintain a Class A CDL
  • Successfully pass a background check, drug/alcohol test and a physical and knowledge based pre-hire assessment

The awarded candidate will be required to live within 25 miles of the facility within the first 6 months of employment and is required to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for scheduled or unscheduled assignments. We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package.

South Central Power Company has an immediate opening for a Vegetation Control Manager. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating and managing South Central Power Company’s multi-million-dollar Vegetation Management program including; budget, performance, vendor agreements and work scope management. This position ensures we work as team to meet or exceed performance goals.

Responsibilities of the position include providing leadership that focuses on improving member reliability, contractor management, continuous cost and performance improvement, work scope planning and scheduling collaboratively with the vegetation services providers to ensure budget, schedule and quality performance objectives are met. This position develops, manages, and documents our vegetation vendor resource strategy to ensure both short-term and long-term success of the program, collaboratively leads the development and management of program performance metrics aligned with the Cooperative’s program goals and objectives. The successful applicant will be expected to provide timely, clear and consistent communication to key stakeholders on a regular basis, and to support storm restoration efforts through personal involvement, management of team personnel and acquisition of supplemental vegetation management resources.

Qualifications include:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required. College or technical school training equivalent to one-year coursework in Forestry, Environmental engineering or a related subject matter preferred. A minimum of four years’ practical utility experience with at least two years’ experience as a supervisor preferred.
  • Candidates should have a commercial applications license, Industrial Vegetation – Category 5 or must become certified within one year of being hired. In addition, candidates should have an ISA Certified Arborist certification or must obtain it within two years of being hired.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated consistency and proficiency in oral and written communications; ability to negotiate; is member driven; displays initiative; accepts responsibility; holds others accountable; participates in and facilitates team effectiveness; assumes the role of the team leader; thinks and acts analytically; makes sound decisions to support the mission; applies knowledge and skill to solve problems and respond promptly, appropriately and constructively to employees and members.
  • Must demonstrate proficient business literacy, writing, project management, budgeting, planning, presentation and computer skills.

If you are an experienced auto/diesel truck mechanic and you are looking for a solid, long-term career with an established company, apply to join the South Central Power team today!

South Central Power Company has an immediate opening for an Auto/Diesel, Hydraulic Mechanic in Lancaster, Ohio. Responsibilities will include everything from daily equipment checks to performing both minor and major repairs on our fleet of vehicles. The successful candidate will provide a full range of maintenance and repair services on light through heavy duty gas/diesel trucks and cars. We prefer to make as many repairs as possible in-house. This includes engine overhauls/replacements, transmission overhaul/replacements, limited body work and air conditioning service and repairs. Candidates should have a good understanding of hydraulic systems as we do service and repair them. Responsibilities also include conducting bumper-to-bumper preventative maintenance on all our equipment as well as occasionally maintaining equipment in other areas of our facility.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, display a positive attitude and uphold South Central Power’s commitment to safety.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma is required. Technical school with an associate degree in Auto/Diesel preferred.
  • Combination of schooling and experience with medium to heavy duty diesel trucks. Related experience with truck-mounted hydraulics/utility equipment preferred. Experience maintaining all makes and models vehicles is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a Class A CDL.
