South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for a Utility Designer at our Lancaster, Ohio location. The objective of this position is to investigate, survey and stake electric distribution lines in accordance with construction specifications. This position reports to our Director of Utility Services.

 

What you’ll be doing

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare staking sheets, submit proposals for joint use and represent the cooperative to consumers and others while in the field.
  • Process and/or coordinate all joint use proposals, assist enforcing and negotiating joint contracts, perform regular joint use audits.
  • Act as system administrator for joint use notification software.
  • Represent the Cooperative on joint use committees and associations.

 

What the job requires

We are looking for an experienced individual who:

  • Has demonstrated knowledge of RUS engineering standards for electrical distribution;
  • Has the ability to perform line staking and prepare corresponding staking sheets;
  • Has strong computer skills;
  • Is able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing;
  • Able to withstand adverse weather and environmental conditions;
  • Has a high school diploma.

 

It would be great if you have

  • An associate degree in an engineering field or equivalent.
  • General training in surveying procedures.
  • At least three years’ practical experience in engineering or operations for a utility including at least one year experience in joint use.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for a Dispatcher at our Lancaster, Ohio location.

We are looking for an individual who can make quick, accurate decisions under stress.  Has outstanding communication skills, the ability to do multiple tasks, a high level of attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills are required. Candidates must be competent in Microsoft Word and Excel. The awarded candidate will be required to reside within 30 miles of the assigned work facility within the first 6 months of employment.

What you’ll be doing

This position analyzes system information and coordinates the appropriate resources to respond as efficiently as possible to the field. Dispatchers operate the two-way radio relaying messages, dispatching crews and assisting various employees with the flow of information required to provide continuous service to the members of the Cooperative. Shifts will vary to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required, as needed.

What the job requires

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years working in the utility operations field.
  • Knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems.
  • An associate degree in a technical related field is preferred.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking an individual to fill the position of Fiber Network Engineer.

What you will be doing…

This role will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining networks, software, systems, and equipment necessary to deliver quality fiber based GPON broadband service. Responsibilities include:

  • Recommend, specify, install, configure, and maintain equipment essential for delivery of high-quality broadband voice and data services over a passive optical network up to the outside plant (point of demarcation from ISP facilities) utilizing a variety of optical and electrical interfaces. This includes the installation, construction, commissioning, operation and break-fix remediation, with root cause analysis of equipment associated with Headend (HE), Central Offices (CO) Point of Presence (POP) and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE.).
  • Participate in corporate and local engineering initiatives and projects, including product development, vendor and equipment evaluation.
  • Performs back-office tasks to properly provision and document the deployment of network elements in management database.
  • Investigates and resolves network quality, reliability, and interference issues.
  • Perform Head End (HE) and Central Office (CO), Point of Presence (POP) facility inspections; Ensure cabling, equipment installation, power and cooling is compliant with standards.
  • Recommend, install, configure, and maintain performance and alerting tools to assess availability and performance of network and systems to maximize reliability.
  • Utilize automation tools to configure networks and systems as efficiently as possible.
  • Install and maintain backup and availability solutions for all technology related to broadband service.
  • Maintain security of communication networks and systems including virtual operating systems and applications.
  • Maintain required logs, records, and other documentation compliant with Company, regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Monitor service provider industry developments, enhancements, and regulations to ensure that Company processes and products are current within the industry.

This is a 1099-Independent Contractor position, so you will be responsible to track and pay your own taxes and healthcare needs. The contractor position is able to work remote and will be require travel to South Central Power’s facility or to meet with a potential vendor 2 to 3 times per month.

What the job requires…

  • High school diploma or equivalence certificate in addition to proficiency in a broad range of computing technologies, enterprise systems management, enterprise network management and application of technology solutions, typically attained through a bachelor’s degree in computer systems and network systems or computer information systems and three or more years of experience, or equivalent experience/education.
  • Functional proficiency with Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model.
  • Detailed understanding and experience with GPON and XGS-PON.
  • Functional proficiency with Local and Wide Area Networking equipment, Virtual Operating Systems, Firewalls, Passive Optical Networks, and other related technologies.
  • Competent with DNS, DHCP, IPAM, TCP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, BGP, OSPF, Netflow, Syslog, SNMP, Radius, CWDM, DWDM Optical Transmission and other related protocols.
  • Functional proficiency with networking and ISP technologies such as routers, switches, telephony, VoIP, QOS, SSL, VLAN, BGP.
  • Functional proficiency in Network Commissioning and Implementation, with demonstrated past experience in (GPON) network standup.
  • Competent with the architecture and maintenance of complex service provider enterprise networks and data centers.
  • Competent in business security, continuity and disaster recovery best practices.
  • Competent in risk management as related to position.
  • Ability to interpret network design maps/drawings & CAD designs.
  • Strong experience with Auto CAD and VISIO.
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of databases preferred.
  • Competent with position-specific software, applications, and equipment.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office products and general office equipment.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Other Technical Certifications a plus (i.e., FSNA, CCIE, CCIA, CCNA, CCNP, JNCIE etc.).
  • Good communication (verbal and written) and listening skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Self-motivation, adaptability, and ability to meet deadlines.
