South Central Power Company has an immediate opening for a Journeyman Line Worker at our Lancaster, Ohio location. The successful candidate will have satisfactorily completed a recognized apprenticeship program and be able to perform all classes of overhead and underground distribution work on energized and de-energized lines.

South Central Power is an electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Lancaster, Ohio, with additional offices across the state. South Central Power serves approximately 115,000 customers and owns and maintains 11,600 miles of distribution line and 256 miles of 69 kV transmission line. The cooperative operates six 138 kV to 69 kV delivery points as well as 70 substations and delivery points. South Central Power serves residential and a wide range of commercial and industrial customers in very rural areas of south central and eastern Ohio as well as suburban areas south and southeast of Columbus.

Responsibilities include all types of work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities, which includes substations.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a high school degree or equivalent
  • Must be classified as a Journeyman in the electrical field
  • Maintain a Class A CDL
  • Successfully pass a background check, drug/alcohol test and a physical and knowledge based pre-hire assessment

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking an experienced individual to fill the position of Director of Member Experience.

This position provides leadership and direction for all functions related to the Cooperative’s contact center. The position is responsible for the development and implementation of programs and processes that will improve efficiencies, increase member satisfaction and foster goodwill between the cooperative and its members. Experience in establishing, monitoring, and analyzing key performance indicators is required. The successful candidate will have strong leadership experience that fosters a culture of coaching, team building, and development of staff.

The cooperative’s member service function is spread across the corporate headquarters in Lancaster, Ohio and three district offices. The position would report to our Lancaster office with frequent travel to district offices required. This position will report to the Vice President of Member Services. Direct reports include a staff of four with an additional 30 indirect reports fulfilling front-line member service responsibilities on a day-to-day basis.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of practical application of skills is required with at least three of those years in direct supervision.
  • Experience in a utility or related organization is preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must demonstrate the ability to successfully lead change, supervise personnel and deal with a variety of people under different and sometimes difficult circumstances.
  • Must be proficient with computer programs like Word and Excel and should have experience with Interactive Voice Response (IVR) units and call recording/monitoring equipment. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for an Electrical System Engineer.

This position is responsible for directing, coordinating and overseeing activities related to maintenance, system planning, operation of distribution and transmission line facilities and to provide engineering support. Duties include but are not limited to preparing plans and studies relating to sectionalizing, over current protection, device coordination, over voltage protection, voltage improvement, power factor correction, load balancing, and system reliability; preparing written technical documents such as procedures, design criteria, specifications and reports; working closely with system control to evaluate switching scenarios, perform load flow studies, and assist with switch order development; conducting ongoing evaluations of our system and oversees appropriate maintenance as needed.

We are looking for an experienced individual who has extensive knowledge of all aspects of transmission, distribution electrical systems operation and procedures. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate sound judgment with the ability to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of processes within the limitations of standard methods or procedures. Safety is a top priority of South Central Power Company. Therefore, the successful candidate will have demonstrated safe work practices, exceptional communication skills, and be committed to playing an active role in safety. South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is looking for an energetic and creative individual to fill the position of Communications Specialist with a focus in design. This position will be responsible for crafting multimedia content for use in communicating with members, employees and the public. The successful applicant must possess a strong ability to engage internal and external audiences through strong interpersonal and creative skills. Superior writing and graphic design skills are required. Strong knowledge of social media tools and engagement strategies is required. The position works out of our Lancaster office and reports to our Communications Manager.

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree in graphic design, multi-media arts, journalism, marketing, communications or a related field is required.
  • Three to five years in the field of communications with design, photography and/or video experience is preferred.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge of principles and tactics of design, photography and video production, writing and editing skills, and must be able to operate within a Windows/PC-based computer environment.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for a Plant Accountant at our Lancaster, Ohio, location.

This position is responsible for providing cooperative with complete and accurate records of electric plant as set forth by the RUS Uniform System of Accounts and provide cooperative management with cost data relating to construction and retirement of plant. Some of the day to day responsibilities include:

  • Tracking the status of engineering staking sheets and monitoring the monthly review of units constructed and retired on completed staking sheets by the Accounting Coordinator.
  • Notifying warehouse, operations and engineering personnel of any discrepancies and monitoring the progress of revisions to staking sheets.
  • Maintaining the continuous property record units and balances for transmission, distribution and general plant in our technology system.
  • Perform month-end closing process on completed work orders. Create month-end journal entries related to changes in utility plant. Prepare reports showing the change and growth in utility plant. Abandon voided work orders. Reconcile depreciation monthly.

We are looking for an experienced individual who is self-motivated, organized, and analytical. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, effective problem-solving skills, and strong attention to detail. This position will report to our Director of Finance & Accounting.

Qualifications:

  • An associate degree in accounting is required.
  • Three to five years of relevant accounting experience is required.
  • The successful applicant must possess advance knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Must have strong computer skills.

South Central Power Company is looking for a knowledgeable and experienced leader to fill the position of Substation Supervisor.

This position directs, coordinates and controls the maintenance and operations of all transmission and distribution substations within established company guidelines, the company’s strategic initiatives, and regulatory compliance parameters. Responsibilities include ensuring the proper operations and maintenance of all substations by following established guidelines for testing, troubleshooting, repairing controls and equipment; providing information and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems; coaching direct reports in the installation, testing, commissioning, training, troubleshooting and repairing of various equipment such as controls, voltage regulators, voltage supplies, relays, wiring control panels, etc.; actively coordinating activities with Department Manager and others; responsible and accountable for adherence to federal and state regulatory requirements; working with Operations Department in developing switching procedures for substations and transmission lines and providing training to employees assigned to related tasks; coordinating and supervising upgrades of existing stations and maintenance projects; and overseeing consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications and contract requirements.

We are looking for an experienced supervisor with strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills who will work hard to ensure South Central Power’s commitment to safety and organizational excellence is upheld. The successful applicant must be able to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with the capability to effectively teach, mentor and coach personnel to achieve desired performance. The successful candidate will also have strong project management and reporting skills. This position will report to the Director of Technical Services. Direct reports include a total of six Substation Maintenance Workers.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in engineering, electrical technology is required.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in all phases of electrical distribution and transmission, and substation construction and maintenance is required. Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Requires the use of judgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of processes within the limitations of standard methods or procedures. Strong problem solving and analytical skills required. Proficiency in the use of computers required, as well as strong leadership, organizational and communication skills.
  • Must have intensive knowledge of operating, environmental and regulatory compliance and safety procedures for electrical distribution and transmission lines and substations. Knowledge of testing, repairing and maintenance procedures for substation and line equipment and familiarity with protective relaying principles, automated controllers, IEDs and SCADA equipment is required.

South Central Power Company is seeking an energetic individual to fill the position of Talent Recruiter.

This position manages the recruitment, hiring, and on-boarding process as well as internal career transitions. Responsibilities include coordinating the recruitment process from start to finish, assisting departments with the posting of positions, interviewing and selection of new hires, administering pre-employment assessments as well as background screenings. This position will represent the Cooperative at job fairs, career days at local schools, and other events that will help in our recruitment efforts. Occasional travel to our four outer offices is required.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, or related field is required. PHR or SHRM-CP certification is preferred.
  • Minimum three to five years administrative experience, ideally in human resources related field. Experience in dealing with difficult situations, employee counseling, and recruitment is required. Additionally, three years in the position to obtain knowledge of Cooperative objectives and procedures.
  • High-level of effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and training others. Must be able to work as a partner in a team environment, maintain strict confidentiality, counsel employees, have excellent organizational skills, be able to set priorities and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

South Central Power Company is seeking an experienced individual to fill the position of Community Development Manager.

This position supports and enhances the cooperative’s public image through involvement with organizations and activities who strive to improve the quality of life of cooperative members. The primary responsibility of the position is to plan, coordinate and manage all our member and community events such as our Annual and Member District Meetings. Candidates should have demonstrated experience with event planning.

Other responsibilities include managing the Operation Round Up program by supporting marketing efforts, our application process and providing assistance as needed to the Operation Round Up board of directors; representing the cooperative in area Chambers of Commerce, charitable boards and other business and trade organizations; overseeing the cooperative’s Scholarship and Youth Tour activities; and managing the cooperative’s involvement in community and school projects to develop and enhance positive relationships.

The successful applicant must possess a strong ability to engage internal and external audiences through strong interpersonal skills. This position will report to our Lancaster office and will have one direct report.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma is required. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public relations or another related field is required.
  • Must have 7 years of experience in customer or public relations or in other areas of utility operations. Event planning experience is required.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the operation of the cooperative including engineering, operations, rate schedules and cooperative business principles. Must also possess a working knowledge of the cooperative’s energy and other programs as well as development functions with communities.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills. Highly motivated, detail oriented and organized. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and verbal and written communication skills.
