South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for an Electrical System Engineer.

This position is responsible for directing, coordinating and overseeing activities related to  maintenance, system planning, operation of distribution and transmission line facilities and to provide engineering support. Duties include but are not limited to preparing plans and studies relating to sectionalizing, over current protection, device coordination, over voltage protection, voltage improvement, power factor correction, load balancing, and system reliability; preparing written technical documents such as procedures, design criteria, specifications and reports; working closely with System Control to evaluate switching scenarios, perform load flow studies, and assist with switch order development; conducting ongoing evaluations of our system and oversees appropriate maintenance as needed.

We are looking for an individual who has knowledge of all aspects of transmission, distribution electrical systems operation and procedures. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate sound judgment with the ability to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of processes within the limitations of standard methods or procedures. Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of related engineering experience of electrical transmission and distribution construction operation and system maintenance.
  • Must demonstrate proficient business literacy, planning, and computer skills. Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.  Must maintain a valid drivers’ license and good driving record. Must have or be able to develop professional contacts with affiliated companies and customers.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking an individual to fill the position of Network Administrator at our Lancaster office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all stages of the IT lifecycle and for all things owned by the network team or as defined by South Central Power Company and its management team. The Network Administrator will apply best practices where applicable and in accordance to network, industry, manufacturer, cooperative, and security disciplines to all owned infrastructure and applications as defined by South Central Power Company and its management team. The Network Administrator will be required to use management software and/or other devices or applications to provide solutions or support to further South Central Power Company and its objectives.

We are looking for an individual with exceptional communication, documentation and interpersonal skills along with the ability to translate information and present to appropriate parties when and where needed in a friendly, encouraging and thoughtful manner. Ability to work seamlessly with their peers, management, and any other teams needing to provide solutions for immediate or future resolutions. The successful candidate would have excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects and/or assignments simultaneously with a keen attention to detail.

This position will be required, from time to time, to travel off-site to anywhere in the South Central Power territory.   The Network Administrator will report to the IT Network Manager.

Essential functions include managing all aspects of the network and voice connectivity. Installing, configuring and maintaining field communication equipment. Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures including training documentation, diagrams, and product documentation for network equipment and/or functions. Conduct research on emerging products and services in support of South Central Power Company goals and objectives. Work ticket queue. Ensure stable and reliable network connectivity and provide expertise on networking subjects that pertain to the OSI or TCP/IP model. On call rotation for technical support.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in computer science is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in network and communications administration is preferred.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for a Member Engagement Coordinator at our Lancaster, Ohio location. This position will support and enhance the cooperative’s public image through the development, planning and participation in member-related events and community involvement activities throughout the cooperative’s service territory. The position will report to the Community Development Manager. Expect travel to events and activities throughout the territory.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identify event opportunities to increase member awareness.
  • Secure and act as the liaison for all venues, entertainment, catering, photography, volunteers, and presentation materials for member-related events.
  • Maintain event budgets.
  • Manage event pre-planning, set-up, tear-down and follow-up.
  • Evaluate the success of events.
  • Coordinate requests for cooperative involvement in community projects as well as safety demonstrations.
  • Represent the cooperative at local events.
  • Assist with employee engagement programs, as needed.

What the job requires

  • Holds an associate degree in event management, hospitality or public relations is required.
  • Has 3 -5 years of experience in hospitality, public relations or other areas of utility operations.
  • Has excellent communication skills and holds a current driver’s license.
  • Is well organized and detail oriented.
  • Can maintain flexible hours – extensive evening and weekend work is required.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for an Energy Services Manager at our Lancaster, Ohio location. The position will report to the Director of Energy Services & Business Development and be responsible for overseeing the energy services team, including Energy Advisors and an Energy Services Coordinator. This position will require occasional travel to our district offices.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage the energy services team by leading, directing and evaluating work.
  • Develop and oversee programs such as demand response, energy efficiency rebates, power quality investigations, and renewable energy interconnection as well as member materials to better educate members on energy use and controlling costs.
  • Analyze and organize activities associated with the department including evaluating and/or revision of procedures and programs.
  • Assist with rate design and billing procedures.

What the job requires

  • Holds an associate degree or an equivalent in energy management;
  • Has strong computer skills;
  • Can effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Has a minimum of five years of progressive experience with a utility or allied industry in energy services including three years of supervisory experience in energy services
  • Has demonstrated knowledge of the power industry, technologies, and trends.

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, has an immediate opening for a Utility Forester. This position reports to the Vegetation Control Manager and will be responsible for the Barnesville, Ohio location as well as the eastern Ohio South Central Power territory.

We are looking for an individual with strong leadership and communication skills who will work hard to ensure South Central Power’s commitment to safety, reliability, and organizational excellence is upheld. The successful applicant must be able to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with the capability to effectively respond and problem solve. The cooperative’s vegetation function is spread across the corporate headquarters in Lancaster, Ohio and 2 district offices, Barnesville, and Hillsboro, Ohio.

What you’ll be doing

•    Assisting in planning and tracking of right of way clearing and herbicide treatment.

•    Direct and oversee contracted right of way planners and tree contractors as well as auditing cleared rights of way in the Barnesville and eastern territories.

•    Collaborate with property owner’s to maintain right-of-way by cutting, trimming, and spraying.

•    Resolving member complaints and deescalating member concerns.

•    Coordinating vegetation work with engineering and operations as required.

What the job requires

•    A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional academic or technical school training equivalent to one-year coursework in Forestry, Environmental Engineering is preferred.

•    A minimum of five years’ practical industry experience in Arboriculture, Horticulture, Forestry or Utility Forestry is required.

•    Commercial applicator license (Industrial Vegetation – Category 5) or must obtain this certification within two years of being hired. Required to obtain Certified Arborist status within three years.

•    Ability to identify tree and shrub species.

•    Maintain a valid drivers’ license and good driving record.

•    Candidates should have demonstrated consistency and proficiency in oral and written communications; ability to negotiate; is member driven; displays initiative; accepts responsibility; holds others accountable; applies knowledge and skill to solve problems and respond promptly and appropriately to members.

We are looking for an individual who can make quick, accurate decisions under stress.  Has outstanding communication skills, the ability to do multiple tasks, a high level of attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills are required. Candidates must be competent in Microsoft Word and Excel. The awarded candidate will be required to reside within 30 miles of the assigned work facility within the first 6 months of employment.

What you’ll be doing

This position analyzes system information and coordinates the appropriate resources to respond as efficiently as possible to the field. Dispatchers operate the two-way radio relaying messages, dispatching crews and assisting various employees with the flow of information required to provide continuous service to the members of the Cooperative. Shifts will vary to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required, as needed.

What the job requires

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years working in the utility operations field.
  • Knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems.
  • An associate degree in a technical related field is preferred.
