Job Description

South Central Power Company is seeking an individual to fill the position of Network Operations Technician. This position would report to the Network Operations Manager at our headquarters located in Lancaster, Ohio.

This role will support the development of the internet service provider communication networks and security across the organization, including best practices to provide optimum data and voice services. Key responsibilities include…

  • Assisting with the operations of communications network and associated technologies required to provide data and voice services to subscribers.
  • Providing on-call tech support.
  • Supporting network performance tools, assessing availability and performance of the network, while maximizing availability and meeting all service level agreements.
  • Maintaining security of communications networks.
  • Supporting the communication network connectivity for LAN and WAN connections, including all associated documentation.
  • Maintaining all network devices, including firmware updates and software/security patches.
  • Support management of technical projects and the subsequent 3rd party solution providers, including preparation of activity and progress reports regarding assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with and provide technical expertise to fiber construction team for new construction, upgrades, maintenance, or any other fiber construction.
  • Work with subscriber support team to enable subscribers to access the network successfully.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement and other related agencies.
  • Support staff performance, development and training to maintain or improve skill levels.
  • Develop and monitor network operations labor, supplies/services, and capital budgets.
  • Provide expertise on necessary Help Desk cases, document, prioritize and respond to cases related to computer systems.
  • Maintain substation certification in order to install and service communication equipment.
  • Maintain service provider technology and service road maps by communicating with industry peers and organizations.

Job Related Qualifications

What the job requires…

  • High school diploma or equivalence certificate in addition to proficiency with a broad range of computing, networking, and telecommunications technologies, and applying technology solutions to reduce system security risks. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Networks and Systems, or Computer Information Systems is preferred.
  • Eight years of demonstrated experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with various levels of management, end users and vendors in a friendly, encouraging and thoughtful manner.
  • Displays and uses professional skills for troubleshooting in a group/team environment, building relationships or decision making needed for advancement of initiatives.
  • Exceptional organizational and written skills and the ability to work on multiple projects and/or assignments simultaneously. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Utilizes best practices both in network and security. Highly self-motivated and capable of exercising good judgment in decision making.
  • Ability to work and travel on a flexible schedule.
