Earth Day is April 22

April 6, 2022

Earth Day is an annual celebration of environmental support held on April 22. For South Central Power Company, it’s a time to demonstrate that our mission of providing safe, reliable power includes a commitment to doing so in an environmentally responsible way.

The electricity that powers your home is generated from a mix of sources: from renewable energy to one of the cleanest burning coal plants in the world. We have a solar array right next to our Lancaster service center and an electric vehicle in our fleet.

You can recognize Earth Day on April 22 and beyond by taking small steps to be more energy efficient. In addition to environmental benefits, these efforts can help spare your wallet by cutting down on energy expenses.

Go paperless and have your
bills and other statements
delivered electronically.

Turn off the lights when
leaving a room and unplug
electronics and appliances
when not in use.

Adjust the temperature of
your water heater to 120
degrees Fahrenheit.

Consider using corded or battery-powered
tools, like hedge clippers
or push mowers, instead of their
gas-powered counterparts.
