South Central Power’s Savings Program

Why are we changing?

While our first step is simply converting from a bill credit to a savings program with points you can redeem on your bill, over time, our savings program will grow and expand to give you more opportunities to earn and redeem points.

When does the new savings program start?

What happens when an account is closed and there is a points balance?

Points are lost if not redeemed before closing an account.

Can point redemption exceed the current bill?

Yes, redemption points can exceed the month’s electric bill, and the credit balance can roll over, except when an account is closed or transferred. If an account has a balance as of a closing or transfer, the points cannot be redeemed for cash and the account balance becomes zero.

Can points be redeemed as a gift and assigned to another member? (e.g., friend or relative), member organization (local school, church, or Salvation Army), or go into a pool for accounts with need?

No, not at this time.

How can points be redeemed and used?

Starting Feb. 1, 2024, points can only be automatically redeemed as a discount on your next month’s South Central Power electric bill. Stay tuned for more redemption details and possible future options.

If I don’t want to participate, how can the load management device be turned off or removed?

If you would like the load management device(s) removed or disconnected, contact an electrician to disconnect or remove the device. HVAC techs, plumbers, electricians, or qualified members are permitted to disconnect the device.

Will the current device continue to work (i.e., turn off my water or air conditioner)?

If the device is connected properly, not broken, and receiving communications from the program operator, Buckeye Power, then Buckeye Power currently plans to continue to operate their load management devices.

How can points be earned?

Points are earned each month for two programs:

Can points be earned over a partial (billing cycle) month?

Points are earned after a full South Central Power billing month, and are not prorated for a partial month.

What is the timing of the points redemption and the discount on my South Central Power bill?

Requests for redeeming points are processed at the end of every month and applied as a bill discount on the next month’s South Central Power bill to that member’s account. Thus, there is a potential for a four to eight week lag between the redemption request and the bill discount.

What happens to points if the member transfers to another location?

Points are lost if not redeemed before closing or transferring an account.

Can point redemption include a cash payout? At any time? When account closed?

No, points cannot be redeemed for cash.

Is there a time period before points expire?

Currently, there is no expiration date of the points as long as the member remains as an active account with South Central Power.

Is there a minimum number of points to be redeemed as a South Central Power bill credit?

The minimum redemption request must be at least 125 points ($1.25 redemption value). Please note: Currently, the smallest amount of points earned is 125 points for the water heater savings program.

Can I request points to be redeemed as soon as I earn them?

Members enrolled in the savings program will default to have their points automatically redeem each month; no action is necessary to redeem your points. Stay tuned for more redemption details and possible future options.
